Chicago, Illinois – January 6, 2024 – Golden Bear Insurance Company proudly announces the successful migration from its 40-year-old AS/400 legacy system to the cutting-edge Guidewire ClaimCenter Cloud (Jasper). 

Achieved in collaboration with InsOps, this milestone represents a significant step in Golden Bear’s ongoing digital transformation, enhancing operational efficiency and customer satisfaction.

In early 2023, Golden Bear initiated a green-field implementation of Guidewire ClaimCenter Cloud, marking a bold overhaul of its technological infrastructure. 

However, the continued reliance on the AS/400 system for managing active and closed claims introduced inefficiencies and complexities in data management. By early 2024, the company aimed to unify its claims data within the Guidewire system to streamline operations.

Golden Bear partnered with InsOps, specialists in complex data migrations, to tackle the intricate task of transitioning claims and financial data from the legacy AS/400 system into the modern Guidewire platform. This process required integrating claims data with policy and financial information housed in separate systems.

The migration project began in the second quarter of 2024, with InsOps deploying its ETL-free Ingestion engine to connect with the AS/400 data. A successful Proof of Concept (POC) demonstrated the viability of the migration process, addressing critical challenges such as discrepancies in hierarchies, codes, and descriptions between the legacy and Guidewire systems.

Over four months, InsOps meticulously completed data mappings, followed by thorough validation of open claims by Golden Bear’s claims and finance teams. Open claims were successfully migrated to the production environment in the fifth month. 

By the sixth month, the team had transferred ten years’ worth of closed claims, officially retiring the legacy AS/400 system.
